In 2008 Outback Pride, in conjunction with the Renmark High School, constructed a bush food production plot at the schools Farming Management Centre at Ral Ral St, adjacent to the McCormick Environmental Centre.
This project gives a hands on educational and commercial outcome for the school. The longer term objective being to help the young Indigenous students at Renmark High School to become the next generation of experts and supervisors of native food enterprises on remote Aboriginal communities. This will ultimately create employment and ongoing skills development.
This project has been an outstanding success due to the dedication of the staff and students at Renmark High school and the professional management of the farming centre.
A doubling of the capacity of this commercial growing operation was undertaken in 2011, with support from Rotary International. The new crops include: Passionberry; Marsdenia; Quandong; Tanami Apples and Kutjera.
