Illawarra Plum

Illawarra Plum (Podocarpus elatus) is a midsized tree that thrives in the wetter, temperate and semi tropical areas of Australia, however still performs OK in the southern zones.

The fruit has a separate hard resinous tasting inedible nut which is removed during harvest. The fruits ripen from March to July and are snap frozen for year round supply.

Even though this is a semi tropical plant , it successfully is producing fruit at the Reedy Creek Nursery orchard.

This mild bush plum has a plum / pine flavour profile with a strong dark burgundy/indigo colour.

Uses: This dark juicy fruit is useful in sweet or savoury dishes.
